Colleagues reviewing a recorded team discussion

Start with an interview, meeting, lecture or voice memo. CrispScribe turns your recording into editable text you can search and export. You can begin without an account or credit card; the tool shows the current daily free allowance before you start.

Read the transcript, find a useful passage, and correct names or specialist terms. Download TXT for notes or SRT for subtitles. If you sign in, transcript text and library details can sync across devices; keep your source recording for checking important moments.

How does free audio transcription work?

Choose a recording and check the daily time shown above. Free audio transcription includes a practical workflow: create a transcript, search for the passage you need, correct the wording and download a copy. You can try it without entering payment details.

For an occasional interview or a first draft of lecture notes, free access is a useful place to start. Longer projects may need more time than the daily allowance provides. Compare credit packs and monthly plans below when your workload grows. Purchased pack credits do not expire; monthly allowances renew with the billing period.

02 / A simple workflow

Start without creating an account

You can start as a guest, so there is no account form between you and your first recording. Choose a file, start transcription and read the result on the page. Open the workspace when you want to make corrections or organize your work.

A guest library stays in the browser you used. Create an account when you want transcript text available on other devices. Signing in does not automatically move your guest work into the account: you choose what to import. Before changing devices or clearing browser data, download anything you want to keep.

  1. 01

    Choose your recording

Drop a file into the tool or browse your device. Start with a recording you have permission to use.

  2. 02

    Review the words

Read your transcript, check the key details and correct names. Keep the original nearby for reference.

  3. 03

    Take the text with you

Copy a passage or download your transcript. Create an account when you want text available across devices.

03 / Made for real recordings

Bring the recording you already have

Bring a meeting recording, an interview, a lecture or a voice memo. Common formats include MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC, OGG, OPUS, WMA, AIFF, AMR, WebM and MP4. For video, transcription follows the spoken audio rather than the picture.

A familiar filename does not always mean the recording will play in every browser. If a file cannot be opened, first check it on your device. Export a compatible MP3 or WAV copy if needed, keeping the original safe. A public YouTube link can import existing captions; videos without captions are not supported through link import.

04 / Before you begin

Plan for longer recordings

A short recording is easier to prepare and review, but a longer session can be useful when you need the whole discussion. Check your available time before starting. Paid plans support files up to 5 hours or 5 GB on supported devices; your device still needs enough space to prepare the recording.

Keep the tab open while a file is processing. If a very large video is difficult to handle, an audio-only copy can be more convenient. Split recordings at natural breaks when possible, and check the beginning and end of each part so an important sentence is not lost.

Your plan

Check your available time before starting. Paid file limits are up to 5 hours or 5 GB on supported devices.

  • Long recordings need enough available time.
  • Batch selection adds files to a queue.
  • Keep this tab open until processing finishes.

Your recording

A complete, playable file gives you the best start.

  • Check that voices are audible.
  • Use a supported format and browser.
  • For difficult files, try a smaller audio copy.
05 / See it in action

Find the detail. Make the wording right.

A transcript helps you move from listening to finding. Search for a name, deadline or phrase, then check the surrounding words. In the sample, try searching for “checklist”, change a line and download the edited version. Nothing in the sample changes your own library.

Your recording quality affects the draft. A clear microphone and one person speaking at a time make words easier to distinguish. Review names, dates, numbers and quotations before using them. In your own transcript, use available timestamps to return to the recording and resolve anything uncertain. Always check important decisions against the source.

06 / Keep your work organized

Your recordings and your transcript library

Keep the original recording for reference. Audio is sent to a transcription service to create the text, but your original media is not stored in your CrispScribe account. Guest transcript text stays in the browser; signed-in text and library details can sync across devices.

Only transcribe recordings you are allowed to use, and let participants know when recording or consent rules require it. On shared computers, sign out when finished. Export important reviewed text to a location you control, and use the library controls to manage unwanted transcripts. The privacy policy explains account information and data handling in more detail.
